Dear God, Is Heaven Full of Eclairs?

19 Jun

Because the Valrhona Caraibe eclair from Doughmonkey sure does taste like heaven.

I don’t know if I can describe this eclair in a way that will do it justice.  The subtly fruity chocolate is barely sweet, and actually cuts down on the richness of the creamy, thick filling.  Not that the cream filling is sweet or overpowering, just so luxuriously smooth that you feel like you shouldn’t over-indulge.  But you do anyway, because no one can resist the temptation of the Doughmonkey eclair.

Eclairs are so much better than regular donuts, it’s not even funny. Just one of those would make me completely satisfied. Possibly even half.

Czar, just as a clarification, the Doughmonkey eclair is made with choux pastry and not doughnut pastry, and doesn’t belong to the doughnut category (and thank goodness for that). The common pudding filled “eclairs” we eat at doughnut shops are technically long johns. I don’t want folks to get the wrong impression that the Doughmonkey eclair is anything like a doughnut shop eclair, that wouldn’t be fair to this gorgeous pastry.

I have got to get out to Doughmonkey. I really just need to take a Saturday afternoon and hit that area of town for a serious food shopping.

Your description was good enough to make me want to go get one and see what you mean!

Thanks for the clarification. Wow! Even better than a regular eclair (longjohn), Huh? Now you’ve really got my attention!!!

lol you can’t compare Doughmonkey to anything regular. Especially not the eclair which is just ridiculous.

tried a few of their chocolates this weekend, the amedei chuao and patric truffles, and the fleur de sel. they were all pretty interesting, chuao was the most wow-ful but the fleur de sel was the most interesting.

Went by Doughmonkey this weekend and wow, their chocolates are gorgeous! Since I got a dozen cookies (and found a new favorite with the Trail Mix), I only tried the fleur de sel, which was not only beautiful to look at, but had a wonderfully creamy and rich filling. My only nitpick with the fleur de sel is that it could’ve been a tad bit less salty to really show off the caramel flavor.
