The Buzz Word is Fusion (Asian Burgers)

10 Nov

Spice up your everyday burger with some Asian flavor.  This recipe makes a quick dinner for two.

I swear the patty is not as small as it looks.  These were just ginormous buns.

For the patties:
3/4 lb ground sirloin (or if you prefer 1/2 pound patties, 1 lb ground sirloin)
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 tsp powdered ginger
1 1/2 tbsp dark soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
cooking spray

In a medium mixing bowl, combine ground sirloin with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper.  Knead mixture with hands until seasonings are evenly distributed through the ground sirloin.  Form two patties with seasoned ground sirloin.

Coat a grill pan with cooking spray and heat to medium high.  Grill patties until desired doneness.  I like my ground beef well done, which takes about 6 minutes on each side.

For assembly:
2 Asian burger patties
2 sesame buns/kaiser rolls
mango salsa or pineapple salsa (you can usually find fresh mango or pineapple salsa in the produce section next to the salad mixes and pre-cut fruit)
wasabi mustard (or any kind of spicy mustard, I actually used habanero mustard), optional, only if you want the heat

Place patty on open bun/roll, top the patty with mango or pineapple salsa.  Dress the top bun half with mustard.

Makes 2 Asian burgers.

I also sauteed some mushrooms slices with yellow bell pepper as a quick side.  Edamame or Sesame Snow Pea Salad would also go well with this quick fusion meal.

I realize the ginormity of those buns, but match the patties to it and you’ll have my interest LOL..and they can’t be well-done (no more than medium, please). I’ll also suggest a combination of sirloin, neck meat (part of the chuck primal cut), and short rib meat, in roughly equal proportion, as the mix for ground beef.

Yeah, I realize my preference for almost burnt ground beef isn’t popular 😛 Just for ground beef, I’m down with bleeding cow slab.
