H-Mart Shopping Center Update: Omi Korean Grill & Bar and Yogurtland

Two new storefronts have opened their doors in the H-Mart Shopping Center in Carrollton during the last month.  Omi Korean Grill & Bar offers an all you can eat Korean BBQ option for $18.99 per person, with diners cooking their own BBQ on the table gas grill.  Marinated short rib was the standout of the meats we tried, tender and juicy.  The side dishes of steamed egg and kim chi stew were lackluster and the banchan lacked in variety.  But I believe this is currently the only all you can eat Korean BBQ in the DFW area.

A few stores down from Omi is Yogurtland, a California-based franchise that just opened its first Texas location in Carrollton.  Yogurtland rotates 27 flavors on 16 self-serve yogurt dispensers and offers two toppings bars (fruit and dry toppings).  In addition to the classic fruit flavors, the more interesting yogurt flavors include peanut butter, green tea, and pumpkin, all of which bore striking resemblances in taste to the real thing.  I enjoyed topping my green tea yogurt with mochi pieces from the dry toppings bar, a lower fat but equally tasty version of the green tea mochi ice cream I indulge in so often.

Clearly Yogurtland surpasses all other yogurt places in DFW in terms of variety of flavors and toppings, but my favorite part about this self-serve concept is that everything is sold by weight, 30 cents per ounce.  It allows the consumer to control how much they’re buying, whether it’s a small cup for those who are watching their diets or a large container to take home and share with the family.

Been to Yogurtland four times and like the self-serve concept. Want mix 6 different flavors in your cup have at it. Have found that a half full small cup is ~ $3, YMMV.
